Other Uniform Items

ItemRequirements
BagsCollege issue formal school bag (available from uniform shop) is to be used by all students. Sport clothing and equipment is to be carried in the sport duffle bag or drawstring sport bag. The music bag is to be used if a student is studying an instrument or is involved in ensembles while at BAC.
HairA student’s hair is to be neat, clean, natural looking, and in good condition. Considering fashion trends, only conservative versions are permitted. Common sense should be exercised and an awareness of what is appropriate for the BAC context. It is the responsibility of students to be aware of these regulations and to insist upon adherence to them when visiting their hairdressers. Any student who does not comply with these guidelines, may be required to stay away from school until the style can be altered accordingly. If you are unsure about a particular style or cut, please seek advice from the College administration prior to making any change.

More specific details regarding hair styles: If longer than collar length, hair to be tied back behind the head (not on top); should not cover or partly cover the face or eyes; appear natural in colour for your complexion; allow for both formal and sport hat to be worn consistently and correctly – level and just above the ears; hair needs to follow a consistent gradient between top, sides and back – no obvious undercuts; afros need to be even, neat and tidy; not faddish – for example no mullets, tracks, dreadlocks, unnatural extensions, rats tails, undercuts, unnatural variation in colour and contrast. These details may be updated, but the overall principle stated in the first paragraph applies.
Undergarments: underwear, singlets, t-shirts, shortsUnderclothing worn beneath the College uniform must be of a neutral colour and must not be visible.
JewelleryJewellery is not to be worn with the College uniform. The only exception: girls may wear one pair of small (<3mm) studs, one in each ear. These can be silver, gold, white pearl or clear diamante.
Makeup and nailsMakeup is not to be worn by Primary students. Female Secondary students may wear makeup if it is natural and discreet. Nail polish is to be clear and false nails should not be worn.
TattoosTattoos should be covered at all times.
Standards for Free Dress daysGENERAL: Common sense and modesty are important when choosing your clothes for ‘free dress’ days, making appropriate choices for sun protection (we recommend students wear a hat).
Clothing should be of 'smart' appearance and in good condition. Footwear should be shoes and socks (joggers, sneakers, runners or similar). Slip on shoes are not permitted (Secondary students may wear sandals with a strap across the back of the foot to distinguish them from slip-on shoes, but must wear closed in shoes for practical classes). Secondary students must wear sports uniforms for sports classes on free-dress days. Jewellery (apart from the standard studs worn by girls) is not to be worn on free dress days.
BOYS: T-shirts or casual buttoned shirts for boys (no singlets).
GIRLS: Dresses and blouses for girls should cover the shoulders completely or have wide straps (at least 6 cm). No strapless or thin-strapped attire permitted. Girls may not wear mini shorts, miniskirts or mini dresses. Make-up should be discreet and nail polish clear.
Safety equipmentStudents must wear safety equipment as required by the College while using specialist classrooms and/or equipment. This includes but is not restricted to safety eyewear, aprons, safety gloves and dust jackets for workshops and labs; mouth guards, shin guards, helmets, face-masks (as required in sports such as softball).
Year 12 senior jerseyYear 12 students may wear their senior jersey with the College sport uniform only.
Dress standards and compliance

Students at Brisbane Adventist College wear smart, practical uniforms they can be proud of. They are expected to maintain a high standard of dress, wearing the College uniform in a neat and tidy manner at all times.

Students are to wear the correct uniform to school each day and ensure it is maintained and in good condition. This includes travelling to and from College and when participating in College excursions (unless stated otherwise), and travelling to and from sporting events, including training.

Staff members will regularly check to ensure students are wearing the correct uniform in a neat and tidy manner. If students are unable to wear the correct uniform, or any part of it, parents are to provide a note of explanation. Students and parents are expected to prioritise having the correct uniform every day.

Secondary students who do not have complete and correct uniform are to collect a uniform pass from their form teacher at their form class in the morning.

Non-compliance with these uniform requirements may result in:

  • a student not being able to attend class
  • a request for a parent to bring the correct uniform item to the College
  • the student being sent home
  • the student being asked to stay at home until a suitable hair style/cut is established
