Instrumental Music Program FAQs

Answers to some of the most common questions families have about our Instrumental Music Program, including lesson organisation, communication, and responsibilities.

Frequently Asked Questions about our Instrumental Music Program

1. HOW DO I ENROL OR UNENROL FROM THE INSTRUMENTAL PROGRAM?

Please complete the relevant form to:

2. WHAT IF THE TUTOR WE WOULD LIKE FOR OUR CHILD DOES NOT HAVE ANY CAPACITY FOR NEW STUDENTS?

Tutors manage waiting lists if they have no capacity for new students.

If a place becomes available, the tutor will contact you directly.

3. WHEN ARE INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC LESSONS HELD?

Regular Instrumental lessons (excluding catch-up lessons) are all held during school hours.

4. HOW DO I OR MY CHILD KNOW THEIR LESSON TIMES?

Once an enrolment form is submitted for the Instrumental Music Program, tutors will communicate directly with families to establish a lesson time.

Students can access their lesson times by:

  • Checking with their Instrumental Tutor
  • Checking with their parents, who will receive this via communication from their tutor
  • The school timetable, where applicable

5. HOW DO STUDENTS GET TO THEIR INSTRUMENTAL LESSON?

This varies according to the student's year level.

Primary Students

  • Lessons are held in our Primary practice studios for students in Prep-Year 6.
  • Tutors collect Primary students from their classroom and return them to class after their instrumental lesson.

Secondary Students

  • Students excuse themselves from class at the appropriate time and sign "in" to their music lesson at Secondary Student Reception.
  • After attending their lesson, usually in the music rooms under our Multi-Purpose Centre (MPC) students must sign back "out" of their lesson at Secondary Student Reception.

To support developing independence and responsibility, Secondary students are responsible for attending their lesson on time.

6. WHAT HAPPENS IF MY CHILD FORGETS THEIR LESSON?

Primary students should not forget their lesson as they are collected from their classroom by their tutor.

If a Secondary student forgets to attend their instrumental lesson, the lesson may be forfeited.

Tutors are not required to:

  • Call classrooms to find a student
  • Contact Secondary Student Reception or the Administration Office to find a student
  • Send lesson reminders

To support students as they begin the program, a four week grace period applies at the start of enrolment. During this time, our Secondary Student Reception/Administration Office may assist with reminding students. After this period, responsibility for remembering lessons rests with the student.

Developing independence and responsibility is an important part of learning an instrument.

7. WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY CHILD HAS AN ASSESSMENT OR AN OUTSIDE APPOINTMENT THAT CONFLICTS WITH THEIR MUSIC LESSON?

Parents or students should notify the tutor as early as possible.

This allows the tutor to consider organising a catch-up lesson rather than forfeiting the lesson.

8. WHO SHOULD I CONTACT TO COMMUNICATE AN ABSENCE OR CHANGE?

Please always contact your child’s Instrumental tutor directly regarding:

  • Student absences
  • Catch-up lessons
  • Scheduling changes to regular lesson times

9. HOW WILL I BE NOTIFIED IF MY CHILD'S TUTOR IS ABSENT?

Tutors will communicate directly with parents and students if they are unavailable for a scheduled lesson.

10. HOW ARE CATCH-UP LESSONS ORGANISED?

Catchup lessons may occur:

  • After school, from 3:30 pm, with the final lesson concluding by 5:00 pm
  • During term holidays on the BAC campus, at the tutor’s discretion

Please check the Instrumental Music Student Handbook for more information on the circumstances under which a catch-up lesson may be offered.

11. WILL I RECEIVE SEQTA NOTIFICATIONS FOR LESSON CHANGES?
