Proud BAC graduate Simon Leung has been a little busy since completing his studies in 2013. Recently, it all paid off when he represented Australia in badminton at the Tokyo Olympics.
Simon has been playing competitive badminton since 2005 when he was just nine years old. Since then, he has practiced and played for countless hours to qualify for the Olympics.
Just last week, Simon dropped by to speak to our Year 7 and 8 Athlete Development Program (ADP) students. He described the challenges and sacrifices of professional sport, encouraged our students to be resilient, tackle challenges, chase their dreams, and, most importantly, maintain a balanced life.
"Watching Simon on TV achieving his dreams of representing Australia in Tokyo was surreal, and it was even more surreal to have him come back and talk to our ADP students," says Head of Physical Education, Mr Rutkowski.
Some students were lucky enough to play against Simon in a game, a few even winning a sneaky point or two!
"The visit back to BAC was exciting," says Simon. "Having the chance to see old teachers again really was amazing, but the honour of coming back as alumni and as an Olympian, and talking to young athletes from Years 7 and 8, was just so special. I will never forget the opportunity and really do appreciate the school and all the staff who got behind this to have me in. It was an honour!"
