When we celebrate Mother’s Day at BAC, we hold with care the complexity it entails. Some in our community, like me, have lost their mums, and that loss remains real no matter how many years have passed. Others are mums themselves but are painfully estranged from their own mothers, have walked the road of infertility and adoption, or experienced the grief of a lost pregnancy, baby, or child. And then there are the many caregivers who have stepped into that role for someone else’s child, loving and leading in ways that are often unseen.

The day-to-day work of mothering – of parenting – is so often invisible and uncelebrated, yet this week we paused to recognise the selflessness of mothers and caregivers. We celebrated the way they quietly shape values, resilience, identity and character over time, and the way "mums" help re-examine and re-enliven faith, culture, and stories across generations.

That same generosity was particularly embodied by BAC mum-of-four, Tia Hobson (from Daisy Events Queensland), who gave her time and resources to create a beautiful and welcoming space for our Mother’s Day morning tea on Wednesday morning. With 10-month-old Chloe strapped to her chest, Tia worked from early in the morning to make everything just right – a small snapshot of the everyday dedication so many mothers and caregivers bring to their families and our community.

As a College, we are deeply grateful for the countless seen and unseen ways you show up for your children – in lunchboxes packed, prayers whispered, bedtime debriefs at the end of a long, hard day, and the steady, faithful presence you provide. This Sunday, we wish you a happy Mother's Day and remember and honour you, just as the One who sees and values every act of care when no one else is looking does.

As a mother comforts her child, so I will comfort you.” – Isaiah 66:13

Happy Mother's Day!
