What is a Tablet Anyway?

Last newsletter I reminded parents and students that we plan to meet with you to discuss our one-to-one student ‘tablet’ programme to be implemented in 2011. Since then, some of the questions posed to me include:
• What technology will my child have access to at school?
• How do more computers and the Internet help my child learn?
• Why is the College introducing student laptops?
• What will be put in place to protect my child on the Internet?
• What are the implications for my child and family?
• What classes will be affected?
• How will this be managed and paid for?
• And of course,” what is a tablet anyway?”

Well, a tablet is a type of laptop computer, and we will be introducing them as a key learning tool for all secondary students. Along with the refurbishment of our Primary Campus A Block, and additional desk top computers recently installed in secondary, this programme will significantly change the way our students learn (in primary and secondary). Technology can be daunting, but it provides our children with stimulating and exciting learning experiences. It can significantly enrich their learning!
