Keeping Score of Sport for Term 1

2023 started with a bang… literally, as the starting gun went off for the Secondary BAC swimming carnival. It's been a successful Term 1 for sports at BAC, with plenty of achievements to celebrate.

Swimming Season, T1

A staggering 27 records were broken on the day of the Secondary swimming carnival. Stradbroke House took home the overall win for the second year in a row and a large contingent qualifying for Districts, Regionals, and State. Well done to our swimmers!

We also saw a large number of students represent BAC across various futsal competitions this term, with the biggest contingent of teams competing at the ASSA Gala Day. Five teams made the grand finals and three won the trophy: u12 Boys, Open Girls, and Open Boys. Well done to those named in the Merit team and most valuable player (MVP)!

Five teams represented BAC at the Brisbane Secondary Futsal Title. Well done u13 Boys and u16 Boys who moved past the group stage and qualified for Finals, where u13 Boys became semi-finalists. It was an impressive effort by all teams in a competition that included over 400 teams across 62 schools.

Our u16s Boys and Girls teams have been playing weekly competitions in the Schools Futsal League. After Round 8, our Girls are 3rd with 5 wins, 2 draws and a loss. The Boys are 5th with 3 wins and 5 losses.

Other Sporting Achievements, T1

Juanu J (tennis) and Rohan S (squash) also had great successes, with Rohan qualifying for and competing at the State Squash Championships in May. Ben N did BAC proud by placing 5th in the 800m at a state athletics meet with a time of 2.00.06. Among many great results over recent years in golf, Natascha T will be competing at the Berlin Special Olympics World Games this June and has been selected as a finalist for the 7News Young Achiever Award.

Please note: While we do our best to keep track of our students’ sporting results, we may have missed some. If you have an achievement that we are unaware of or have missed reporting, please let Mr Rutkowski or the Sports Department know.

Coming in T2

Our whole-school cross-country carnival will be held in Week 1, followed by the start of the basketball season and the touch football teams' first tournament. We'll finish off Term 2 with the Secondary athletics carnival in Week 10.

Congratulations to all our athletes on a successful Term 1 and good luck to everyone competing in Term 2!
