P&F Press Release 03 | 19

The P&F is all about how we, as a community, can be an instrument, a platform and a voice for the growth of our College community. We are here to support the College and make a positive difference to our school.

Dear parents and friends,

It’s hard to believe that we’re already almost halfway through Term 4! There’s so much to report since our last P&F Press Release.

As you will see below, we’ve been busy! Now that we are turning towards Christmas, our grand finale will be a P&F fundraising stall and fireworks display at the Twilight Markets & Carols by Candlelight, held on College grounds on Sunday 8 December, 4 pm to 9 pm.

We are currently looking for volunteers to help at the Twilight Markets & Carols by Candlelight. We need big numbers to do this properly. Please register to volunteer: pandfpresident@bac.qld.edu.au

Our work would not be possible without the generosity of volunteers and families who have been willing to support our community and fundraising events. To you, we say Thank You!

We are so blessed. At a time when many schools struggle to find enough volunteers for a P&F to exist, our College maintains its belief in community and serving others. It was through the efforts of volunteers in 1966 that our College was founded, and generous donations of money and labour throughout College history have fortified us and helped us grow into the school we are today. It is wonderful to see our College continuing this tradition by making community service a focal point with programs like STARS, Duke of Edinburgh, SonShip, STORMCo and many class-based community service activities.

Nominations for roles on this small but proactive P&F are open. We invite you to submit your nomination to pandfpresident@bac.qld.edu.au. However, whether you hold a position or not, you are always welcome to come along to our P&F meetings.

As this is our final P&F Press Release for the year, I’d like to wish you a happy Christmas and holiday period. Please enjoy the news below.

This year’s P&F fundraisers included the Easter Bun Drive and annual movie night featuring The Star. The movie night proved very popular for families seeking a fun, relaxed night out. The College National Basketball Team players helped P&F volunteers with the logistics of the night.

Easter Bun Drive: $370 profit
Annual movie night: $1065 profit, donated to our National Basketball Team

The thoughtful expressions on children’s faces as they carefully weighed up which gift to select from the wide range at our popup P&F stalls showed us just how much children love choosing presents for their parents. We hope you enjoyed your gift. It was certainly from the heart

Mother’s Day breakfast on May 10 was a beautiful high tea buffet donated by Royal Foods and prepared by volunteers, with hot beverages served by two dads who were kept extremely busy! Exquisite balloon arrangements appeared on each table and made up a photo wall. These were donated by Love Balloons.

Father’s Day breakfast was served under marquees on the lawn on Friday, August 30. It was a perfect winter’s day for breakfast in the sun, with kids playing in the background and running up for hugs from dad. Love Balloons also donate the balloons for this event. Thank-you to all the parents who donated food and their time to make this event successful.

Getting into the spirit of Narnia, we themed our P&F café to match this year’s musical and called it Mr Beaver’s Lodge Cafe. We also fed the cast and crew prior to the two evening performances.

We celebrated Teacher Appreciation Day earlier this term with a beautiful breakfast on the lawn. Our staff enjoyed the pampering and a small gift of appreciation from Parents and Friends. Have you read about what this teacher did on her last holidays?

The main project for P&F this year was the GATE 3 Drop’nGo. The new retaining wall, seating area and a layer of fresh new grass was funded by the College P&F to make waiting for mums and dads at the end of a long day a little more comfortable.

The P&F are also responsible for the new seating in the Primary quadrangle, with $8000 worth of aluminium seating and two small decks for students to enjoy the outdoors, play games or take a break from the handball action.

Our smiling, energetic volunteers have been the secret sauce for our success. Thank you to all those who have been able to contribute time and energy and also to those mums and dads who may not have had the time but generously donated food and other items to ensure our P&F endeavours were a success.
