Academic
Learning is our core business. All students are expected to give their best to their academic studies. To help students achieve to their potential, the following guidelines are in place (any student not prepared to meet the academic commitments as outlined above, may forfeit their right to represent the College in sports teams, community service ventures and other activities of a representative nature):
Assessments & Assignments
Assessment is our measure of learning. The College has a rigorous assessment schedule which includes exams and assignments.
All assignments are to be handed in at 8.45 am on the due date. Assignments are to be placed in the assignment box located in the Secondary Student Reception before 8.45 am on the due date. If you are absent on the due date, you must produce a medical certificate or a parental note of excuse on your return to school along with the assignment. Other acceptable arrangements include:
- sending the assignment to school with a friend or relative on the due date;
- having a parent contact your teacher on or before the due day, explaining the circumstances and making suitable arrangements for the delivery of the assignment.
Please Note: Teachers set assignments with adequate time for completion. It is important for students to plan their assignment so they complete them on time. Unexcused late submissions may incur a penalty.
If you are absent for tests you are required to contact the school where possible on the day of your absence, informing the office that you cannot attend the exam. This allows your teachers to plan for alternate assessment arrangements.
If a student misses multiple tests or assessments, the Deputy Principal Secondary, in liaison with class teachers, will determine an alternate assessment arrangement.
Subject Changes
If you wish to change subject, you must apply on the appropriate form available from Student Reception, to the Deputy Principal Secondary.
TAFE and Distance Education
This method of study is only suited to students who are capable of independent study and therefore permission will be given subject to School of Distance Education Guidelines and a satisfactory interview involving the Parent/Caregiver, the student and the Distance Education Coordinator.
TAFE (Technical and Further Education) is offered as an option on Wednesday afternoons in place of Sport. This option is available only in consultation with the Deputy Principal Secondary and subject to the guidelines outlined on application.
Homework
The College values homework as a vital support to classroom learning. Parents/Caregivers are encouraged to support students and teachers by providing space, time and resource so students can effectively complete homework and study at home. Routine homework is vital and a suggested age-appropriate guide to minimum time spent on homework/study is provided below:
