NAPLAN Results for 2011
Schools are complex organisations and it is necessary to look at a range of factors in deciding how well they are performing. There are a great many variables from year to year and from school to school. Therefore, when looking at the results from NAPLAN it is important to consider:

1. Whether the cohort is academically strong or weak;
2. The broader achievement of students rather than focusing upon individual “stars”;
3. That the particular strengths of a school are not easily measured by academic results alone (i.e. Character development, values, happiness, emotional well-being, sport or performing arts).

NAPLAN measures students across five areas: numeracy; reading; writing; spelling; and, grammar and punctuation. Individual student results are averaged to produce a school average, which is then compared to both the Queensland average and the National average for each cohort in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9.

The great news about our NAPLAN results for 2011 is as follows:

• Year 3 performed above the Queensland average in all five areas and exceeded the national average in three areas;
• Year 5 performed above the Queensland average in all five areas and exceeded the national average in four areas;
• Year 7 performed above the Queensland average in three areas and exceeded the national average in one area;
• Year 9 performed above the Queensland average in all five areas and exceeded the national average in three areas.

When these results are considered together in total, BAC students outperformed the state average in all five areas of the NAPLAN testing, with our students exceeding the national average in numeracy, writing and spelling!
