Year 7 to 12 Events & Highlights

It’s all happening at the BAC Hub!

The Enhanced Learning Department will provide homework sessions for all Secondary students starting in Term 2. The homework sessions will be in the LRC - Secondary Campus, starting at 3.30pm - 4.30pm, every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.  This will be known as the “BAC HUB.” Letters are going out to parents this week indicating whether they would like their children to participate in this program, and what days their child is most likely to attend. Please note: students will be expected to be picked up on time as the supervising teachers will only be there until 4.30pm.

Young fashion designers visit Peter Alexander store

The Year Nine Home Economics class recently visited the concept store of Peter Alexander in the Queen’s Plaza, Brisbane Queen Street Mall. The Sleep Wear Fashion Research Excursion was co-ordinated by Mrs Shelley Matthews.

Mrs Matthews explained that, “This term the unit of study is Sleep Wear.  Peter Alexander is a very popular, successful pyjama and relaxed wear designer.  He has many signature stores throughout Australia and also has his designs in David Jones and Myer.  The students sketched some of their favourite designs, had a presentation from the sales manager about the philosophy, history, marketing style and current design themes.”
Peter Alexander’s aim in his pyjamas  is to be: intimate, indulgent, delightful, memorable and personal.  His target market is: women, men and children.

Students are designing, construct and model a set of pyjamas for themselves, which need to be themed and presented in an attractive and marketable manner.

Home Economics student Ashley White says, “It was a fun excursion. There was so much pink!”

Sania Alamate: Councillor Extraordinaire

Year 10 student Sania Alamate has been selected to represent our college at the 2012 Lord Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council (LMYAC). The Right Honourable Lord Mayor of Brisbane Councillor Graham Quirk formally requested the pleasure of Sania’s company at two special events: The Lord Mayor's Youth Advisory Council Induction Workshop and The Lord Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council Meeting.

The induction workshop is a chance to meet with the other members of the LMYAC as well as staff of the Brisbane City Council Youth Team. This is followed by the Lord Mayor's Youth Advisory Council Meeting; the first official meeting, to be chaired by the Lord Mayor.

Held at Roy Harvey House in the Brisbane City Centre, the LMYAC is an exciting opportunity for the voices of our young people to be heard as well as giving BAC a voice in the issues pertaining to Brisbane.

Sania says, “It’s so exciting! We get to talk about how our school can be more involved in the wider community. I really like it.”
