2012 SPEECH COMPETITION RESULTS
During the last week of Term 1, we concluded our 2012 Speech Competition with our Finals. This year, junior students wrote speeches on “What I Love About Australia”, while senior students researched “A Famous Invention”. Once again, the speeches were outstanding at all levels of competition.
The Finalists presented their speeches before three esteemed guest judges: Mr Colin Leeson (recipient of the ‘Advanced Communicator Gold’ Award and president of the CITEC Branch of Toastmasters International), Pr Malcolm Potts (General Secretary – South Queensland Conference) and Mrs Tania Calais (Associate Education Director).
Congratulations to all participating students who practiced and improved their speaking skills throughout the competition. The award recipients for 2012 are as follows:

NETBOOKS MEAN NO MORE 'TRAIPSING' FOR YEAR 5 & 6 STUDENTS
This year, our Year 5 and 6 classes (including Year 4/5F) have 50% time access to class sets of Netbook computers. This has been an exciting addition and has enabled teachers to integrate ICT more authentically in the classroom, rather than waiting until an allocated time in the Computer Lab.
Students are very positive about the new Netbooks. Jemma K, a Year 5 student, enjoys using these new computers in her classroom because “the internet is fast, and they are easy to use.” Another Year 5 student, Tara L., also enjoys them as she no longer has to “traipse to the Library to use computers.”
SENIOR PRIMARY SWIMMING CARNIVAL – RESULTS
Recently, we held our Senior Primary Swimming Carnival at the Aquatic Centre, Griffith University. This was the first time we have used this venue, and we were very pleased with the results. We would like to thank Mr Laconi for arranging the booking and the Aquatic Centre for allowing us to use their facility at no cost as we were their first school.
House pride was very evident as students cheered on their teams and encouraged one another, with great participation in events throughout the day. I know that some students (and parents) went home very tired and with little voice left!
A huge thank you to all the parent helpers who gave up a day to come and participate in the carnival – we were very lucky to have such a large number of helpers. Thank you also to House Captains, Staff, students, spectators and especially Mrs Hassen for helping to create a memorable event.
Congratulations to our 2012 Swimming Age Champions:
