Bus Information

Brisbane Adventist College operates 9 buses on routes covering the south side of Brisbane where there are sufficient numbers to make a service viable. Where possible the buses will use main roads and utilized council bus stops. The service we offer is dependent upon seats being available. A waiting list may apply on some routes. First preference will be given to Unlimited Fare travellers from the furthest zone. Please note that to achieve a fair service to all travellers we do not offer a door-to-door service.

Bus Fares

Brisbane Adventist College provides a bus service based on the following fee structure.

  • Service is provided to various districts on the south-side of the Brisbane River where there is a substantial need for bus transport.
  • The routes and stops are set by the bus manager in conjunction with the bus committee.
  • The rates are set to zones increasing by approximately a 4 kilometre radius per zone from the College for each zone 1–5.

There are 3 rates of travel.

  • Full-time - (7-10 trips per week) charged to student’s fees at the commencement of each term.
  • Part-time - (4-6 trips per week) charged to student’s fees at the commencement of each term.
  • Casual - (Less than 4 trips per week) calculated from the bus roll at the end of each term and charged to the student’s fees at the commencement of the next term. Term 4 casual bus usage will be calculated during exam week for Year 12 students, using average weekly trip and expected completion date to obtain an estimated total. A separate fee account will be mailed for these fares.
  • It is the responsibility of parents and guardians to notify the College of any changes to travel requirements for travelling students. If travel requirements change new forms must be completed for changes to take affect. Forms are available from the bus drivers, the College Administration Office, or can be emailed or faxed upon request.
  • If circumstance change after the commencement of the term a refund can be sought for extended absences in the case of Full-time and Part-time fares if:
  • They are absent up to 3 Weeks - Full fare charged
  • They are absent 4 Weeks - Half fare charged plus 1 week casual
  • They are absent 5 - 7 Weeks - Half fare charged
  • They are absent more than 7 weeks Casual charges will apply.
  • Fees are calculated on what is considered a reasonable annual charge and divided evenly over the four terms. For this reason there is no refund for students finishing early in term 4.

Fares are adjusted by the College Council at the commencement of each calendar year in line with transportation costs.

Code of Conduct

This “Code of Conduct” is designed and enforced to ensure the continued safety and comfort of all students travelling on our College buses. The following regulations are common-sense practice, but we are legally obligated to inform you of them and they must be observed:

  1. A Student Traveller Profile must be completed prior to or within 48 hours of travelling on BAC Buses.
  2. All students must be seated in the appropriate manner while travelling. Seatbelts MUST BE WORN FOR THE DURATION OF THE TRIP on seat-belted buses. Walking in the aisles and kneeling on seats are not permitted. If a seat is not assigned by the driver, the student must choose a seat {Primary to the front, Secondary to the rear} and stay in that seat for the duration of the trip. Once a student is on the bus, they are not permitted to get off until their destination is reached. Inbound: Secondary students must vacate the bus only at the secondary campus stop and primary student must vacate the bus only at the primary campus stop. Outbound: primary students are not permitted off the bus for any reason while waiting at the secondary campus stop.
  3. Noise is to be kept to a level that does not distract the driver from doing his or her duty. Screaming and shouting are not acceptable.
  4. For personal safety students must not put arms, legs, hands or any body part out of the bus windows.
  5. Inappropriate gestures to members of the public are unacceptable.
  6. All balls used for football, tennis, cricket etc. are to be kept in bags. Balls are not to be thrown around the bus. The driver has College authority to confiscate objects used inappropriately. Certain toys or games may be used at the driver’s discretion on the bus providing they do not interfere with the rights and safety of others.
  7. No gum is to be brought onto buses at any time. The driver may permit certain non-messy foods to be eaten on the bus such as muesli bar type food. Definitely no chip or dry noodles, no cheese dips, and no fruit. Any product wrappers are the responsibility of those who eat the product and should be returned to their lunch box for disposal later. Only water is permitted to be drunk. No juice or carbonated soft drinks are permitted. Should students fail to comply with the above, the privilege will be suspended.
  8. No litter is to be thrown out of windows at any time.
  9. Parents of students who need to be met at the bus stop in the afternoon are asked to be waiting for the bus when it arrives. Buses are not able to wait for adults to arrive as this causes inconvenience to other parents at later stops.
  10. Please do not embarrass drivers by asking to change buses. No student is allowed to change buses without prior arrangement. Approval from the College Bus Manager must be obtained by written request from parents at least 24 hours prior to the day. No note – no change of bus.
  11. When alighting from the bus, students must remain seated until the bus has stopped and then wait until the bus has moved off before attempting to cross the road.
  12. In the morning students must be at their pick up point five minutes before departure time. If students are not at the pickup point on time, it will be assumed they will not be attending College for that day. A text message to alert the respective driver would be appreciated.
  13. The buses will endeavour to leave the College on time. Departure time from the College is 3.20 – 3.23pm. Students who miss the bus will need to contact parents to make other arrangements for that day.
  14. The carrying of penknives, razorblades, matches, cigarette lighters, any sort of aerosol can (including deodorant), or similar dangerous objects is forbidden.
  15. In the interest of those who suffer from asthma or other respiratory disorders the spraying of deodorant on buses is prohibited.
  16. If parents of students who travel regularly by bus intend collecting them from the College in the afternoon, please provide prior notice to the driver and the College (please do not leave it until the last minute).
  17. No radios are to be played on the buses by students. MP3 players, iPods etc. may be used with ear phones at the discretion of the bus driver.

In accordance with the ‘Code of Conduct for School Bus Travel’ issued by the Queensland Transport Department, students can be prohibited from travelling on our buses for up to ten weeks for unacceptable behaviour. In addition, the College has the right to suspend students from classes if it is felt that certain unacceptable behaviour on the buses warrants this.

All students are encouraged to represent our College in the appropriate manner when travelling on our buses.

Remember the “BAC Way” applies to bus travel also.
